Two Chances to Get Ready for ÖTILLÖ Worlds in Sweden

By the time you arrive in Sweden for ÖTILLÖ Worlds, your fitness cake is already baked. You are not going to gain anything by trying to cram in one more hard workout. What you can do is remove a few surprises, make sure your gear works, sharpen your transitions and get more comfortable with what is waiting for you on race day.

That is exactly why Team Envol is offering two coached pre-race swimrun sessions before the 2026 ÖTILLÖ World Championship.

The first is a course-specific day trip to Utö on Thursday, September 3. The second is a free race-prep session at Sickla Strand Beach on Friday, September 4. They serve different purposes, and both will be kept at an easy, race-week-appropriate effort.

If you can only make one, make it Utö. If your schedule allows, come do both.

Thursday, September 3: Course Reconnaissance on Utö

There is no substitute for getting onto the actual course before race day.

Team Envol coaches will lead approximately two hours of easy-paced swimrun across the final five islands of the ÖTILLÖ World Championship course. This is not intended to be a hard training day. The goal is to let you experience the terrain and water, test the equipment you plan to race in and practice your transitions in the environment where they will actually happen.

Those final islands come late in an already long day. Small details that seem insignificant while looking at a map can feel very different when fatigue has set in. Seeing the entries, exits, trails and transitions ahead of time gives you useful context that you cannot get from a video or race report.

We will focus on:

  • The terrain and water conditions on the final section of the course
  • Swim entries, exits and transitions
  • Gear setup and accessibility
  • Efficient movement as a team
  • The details that matter when you reach this section late in the race

After the swimrun, we will return to Aktiv Skärgård for lunch, changing facilities, sauna and hot tub time. The event fee primarily covers the food and amenities, with a small portion helping cover coaching costs. The current price and payment instructions are included in the registration information.

The Important Timing Detail

We will depart at 7:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 3.

If you are flying into Stockholm for Worlds and want to join us, you need to arrive no later than Wednesday. Several athletes have already moved their flights forward specifically so they can attend.

This is a full-day outing. At a high level, we will travel together to Utö, spend approximately two easy-paced hours on the final five islands, then finish with lunch, sauna and hot tub time before returning to Stockholm later that afternoon.

We have hosted this session during each of the past three World Championship race weeks. If you know an athlete who attended last year or the year before, ask them about it. They will tell you it was well worth arriving early.

The Utö session requires registration and has a small fee. Transportation and ferry tickets are separate. The registration form contains the current fee, meeting point, complete schedule, transportation arrangements, lunch selection and everything else participants need to know.

Friday, September 4: Free Race Prep at Sickla

The following evening, we will meet at Sickla Strand Beach for a completely free coached race-prep session.

This is a final systems check, not a last-minute fitness test. Team Envol coaches and experienced Team Envol members will lead approximately 90 minutes of swimrun covering an estimated eight kilometers of great trails and open water.

We will work through:

  • Race-day strategy
  • Final gear setup and checks
  • Faster, cleaner transitions
  • Efficient running and swimming
  • Any last-minute questions or concerns

The Sickla session is open to everyone and all skill levels. You do not need to be an Envol member. Bring your race partner if they are available, the gear you intend to use and any questions that are still bouncing around in your head. No need for registration for this one. Just show up.

Date: Friday, September 4
Time: 5:30 p.m.
Location: Sickla Strand Beach
Estimated duration: 90 minutes
Estimated distance: 8 kilometers total
Cost: Completely free

After the session, anyone who wants to keep hanging out can join us at Sjöpärlan for pizza and beer. That part is optional. Food and drinks are at your own cost and will be ordered and paid for directly through the restaurant.

Which Session Should You Attend?

The Utö day gives you course-specific knowledge that cannot be replicated anywhere else. You will see the final five islands, test your setup on the actual course and better understand what will be waiting for you late in the race. If you can only attend one session, this is the one I recommend.

The Sickla session is your final tune-up. It is a chance to move, practice a few transitions, ask questions and connect with other racers without creating unnecessary fatigue. It is also completely free.

If you can make both, come do both. We will keep the effort controlled and make sure the focus stays where it belongs: helping you reach the start line prepared, confident and ready to execute.

The schedules and routes are tentative and may be adjusted based on weather, ferry operations and conditions on the day.
